Quick Facts about Performing at BCMFest:

  • BCMFest is a weekend-long event with an after party and jam session for all musicians and volunteers.
  • BCMFest showcases artists who live in or who have continued ties to the Greater Boston area Celtic music and dance community.
  • New collaborations are encouraged, especially those that are imaginative, creative, and outside the box.
  • Every performer is compensated equally.

 

Performer Categories:

 

  • Tradition-Bearer
    Boston is fortunate to have a number of seasoned Celtic musicians, people who have helped to shape the strong traditional music scene that we enjoy here today. Every year, BCMFest will invite representatives of the Tradition-Bearer category. To apply: If you are a leader in the Celtic music community and would like to be involved, please be in touch.
  • Performing Professional
    Our community is also home to many talented Celtic musicians who perform nationally and locally. If you are a performing professional and would like to apply to the festival, we welcome your application as a touring act or as a new project. BCMFest is an exciting place to experiment with new collaborations and ideas. To apply: Fill out an application. If you have never performed at BCMFest before, then please submit a sound sample. Returning BCMFest performers do not need to provide a sound sample.
     
  • Sessioneers
    Session players are the lifeblood of the Boston Music Community. If you are an active session musician and would like to perform at BCMFest, please let us know and tell us which other musicians you would prefer to accompany you. To apply: Fill out an application. If you have never performed for BCMFest before, then please submit a sound sample. Returning BCMFest performers do not need to provide a sound sample.
     
  • New Bands on the Block
    Got a new act that you've started rehearsing with and want a great local gig? BCMFest can provide you with a high-profile outlet for your music. To apply: Fill out an application. Please submit a current sound sample.
     
  • Next Generation Performers
    BCMFest is committed to providing performance slots to young traditional musicians, as they are the musicians of the future. We welcome applications from young performers and new collaborations. To apply: Fill out an application. Please submit a current sound sample.
     
  • Artie Flynn Open Stage Performers
    Are you interested in performing at BCMFest but don't think that you can make the application deadline? Or are you new to performing and would like to get a little stage experience? You can sign up to play at the BCMFest Artie Flynn Open Stage. Details for registering will be announced. PLEASE NOTE: Open Stage performers do not get free admission to the festival.
  • Dance Groups
    Each year, BCMFest features groups performing traditional dance such as Irish step-dance, Highland, Cape Breton, morris, and rapper sword. If you have a group that fits this description, then we encourage your group to apply. Groups get in free for the day on which they perform.
