Named “Residency King of the Hub" and said to be “just too talented to remain a local hero,” by The Boston Globe; Tim Gearan, the Boston based singer-songwriter was awarded Unsung Hero at the Boston Music Awards in 2004 and continues to be nominated for BMAs today.
Known for his “guttural voice (that) bears a captivating, rustic quality-similar to the smoky style of M. Ward,” (The Northeast Performer) Tim Gearan was raised in New York, yet is lovingly claimed by the legendary Boston music community, where he has been playing music for over 20 years.
Gearan performed on Grammy nominated, American Blues artist, Susan Tedeschi’s 1998 debut album, “Just Won’t Burn,” and has been regularly sought after by countless musicians for his uninhibited, soulful guitar playing and creatively soaring abilities.
After 10 years of touring nationally and abroad as a sideman guitarist for Toni Lynn Washington, Gearan settled down in Somerville, Massachusetts with his wife and daughter and performs his own music with a remarkable band of Boston MVPs almost exclusively, occasionally stripping down his songs at the famed folk venue, Club Passim in Cambridge, to a full house.
To say Gearan’s fans are loyal and adoring is an understatement; his cast of long-time followers show their devotion with video tributes, tattoos and heartfelt covers of his songs that can be heard all over his thriving live-music-loving community. “(Tim’s) songs are near enough to the source of things that any player wants to get near them, it's like a watering hole, just a natural phenomenon; it's where the critters gather. (songwriter/collaborator, Peter Mulvey)”
And gather they do. Music lovers, friends and Boston’s most prestigious musicians have packed Gearan’s weekly residency at Atwood’s Tavern, a musician-favorite venue in Cambridge, Friday after Friday for years and counting.
In addition to Atwood’s and Club Passim, Gearan has performed at notable area venues such as The Paradise Rock Club, Johnny D’s, Toad, the Lizard Lounge and the Somerville Theater.
Gearan has been a regular guest of local super-groups Session Americana, the Sea Monsters and of Treat Her Right. He has been acclaimed for his performance of Hades in Anais Mitchell’s folk opera, Hadestown, toured to Scotland with Kris Delmhorst, Alastair Moock and Rose Polenzani as part of a project called the “Boston T Party,” and continues to collaborate with an amazement of artists in Boston and beyond.
Recorded at Q Division Studios in Somerville with long-time musical colleagues and dear friends and produced by BMI nominee, Ed Valauskus; with fan support from across the globe, Tim Gearan released his 5th record in early 2012.
